5 things in a Ladies Special local train in Mumbai

Sony Entertainment Television’s upcoming offering Ladies Special portrays the lives of 3 strong young women. Their daily commuting by local train and the bond they create while commuting is something worth to watch out for. A true train commuter will definitely relate to the show and the things they encounter in their train journey. We list down 5 things that happen only in a Ladies Special train.

Reservation of seats
We are all aware that Mumbai local train seats are available on a first come first serve basis. However, if you’re part of a girl gang that travels together on a daily basis in the same train, chances are, you’ll have a friend ‘reserve’ a seat for you. How is this done? A bag or dupatta often functions as an item used for reserving the seat. And if you sit on someone else’s reserved seat, get ready to face the wrath of women who travel together every day. You do not, we repeat, do NOT want to cross them! EVER!

A thriving marketplace
So, you thought you can only buy little knick-knacks from vendors who board Mumba’s local trains? Well, guess what? On ladies special trains you can get everything from salwar-suit dress materials to cut vegetables for the forever busy female commuter on the Mumbai local. We have also come across women peddling slimming tonics and what not!

Cat fights!
God help you if boarded a Virar local only to alight at Borivali! Every Mumbaikar worth his/her salt knows exactly which train NOT to board if they want to arrive at their destination in one piece. And if you get into an altercation with another woman on the train – brace yourself. Make sure you have in your arsenal the choicest abuses and are ready to put up a fight even when you know you’re wrong. The idea is to not let go of the fight. The one who makes the loudest noise is hailed as the winner. You won’t get a medal but might just be offered a fourth seat by someone who appreciates the fight you put up.

Women’s Protection Squad
The same women who fight with each other over seats band together to fight off men who enter the ladies compartment. Unless the man is a hawker with items to sell that would interest women, men are strictly not allowed in the ladies compartment. And if a man does enter and proceeds to misbehave with a woman, he gets to see what women can do when they come together. Every woman will stand up for the woman being harassed. So, perverts beware!

Finding friends for life
Commuting together for over an hour every day often means you end up traveling with the same set of women at least five days every week. It is but natural that you end up talking to co-commuters and often form a bond with them. There are innumerable stories of women who have become friends with other women they’ve met on trains and have often maintained these friendships long after they’ve stopped traveling by train. These are friendships that may begin as relationships of convenience but often grow into relationships for life.

Encapsulating all this and much more in a story that follows three amazing women, Meghana, Bindu and Prarthana – portrayed by actors Girija Oak, Bijal Joshi and Chhavi Pandey in a brand-new show called Ladies Special, Sony Entertainment Television is all set to take viewers on a commute of a life time. Through highs and lows, smiles and sorrows, ups and downs, viewers will get to see these three women bonding with each other as they commute together on Mumbai’s lifeline – the Ladies Special from 27th Nov at 9:30 PM only on Sony Entertainment Television.
