For Pre-Fall 2018, even the most banal office fashion (a
white shirt, navy pencil skirt and single-breasted blazer) is now thesubject of
a runway makeover – thanks to Pret-a-porter brand Ombré Lane.
As functional yet stylish work-wear gets its prominence in
the Indian fashion circuit after years of oblivion, the “chic office” look
comes back into vogue with their latest collection.
This range is company’s founder and CEO- Shweta Sharma’s
answer to the millennial-shaped gaping hole for “Work-wear Fashion” in India. A
Wharton and IIT graduate, Shweta understood early on that functionality and
fashion had to be amalgamated to create a range of smart, stylish and yet
extremely practical range of daily essentials for the new age working women.
With a motto to ensure that women feel comfortable and confident to face
challenges at the office, the collection is carefully tailored to adhere to the
various problems that may arise at the workplace.
The collection is created with a keen emphasis on longevity
and style- such as no gape buttons, linings and thoughtfully placed pockets on
panty lines, functional pockets to keep phone and keys, holders to secure bra
straps in sleeveless tops and dresses, invisible elastic to manage weight fluctuations
and menstrual bloating.
These are the aspects that are lacking and ignored by
most mass manufacturers in the country. The design team hasdone intensive
research on body shapes, sizes and functional requirements of a working women
in India – case in point: Over 70% of Indian women have a pear shaped body and an
average height of 5 feet 2 inches and over 75% of western work wear which is
available in the marker is made for a woman of 5 feet seven inches of height
and rectangular body shape i.e. common in the west.
Sharply-tailored blazers, perfectly fitted pencil skirts,
fluid blouses and sleek shirts in neutral colours and prints, commemorates an
era of stylish work-wear fashion in India.
