Actress, mother, entreprenuer, activist, budding
organic farmer, environmentalist & yoga enthusiast as her bio on the micro
blogging site reads, Juhi Chawla has been the torchbearer for the longest time
to fight a consistent battle with the bigwigs spreading awareness for mobile
radiation & having being successful in getting many mobile towers removed.
For quite some time now, Juhi has been staunchly advocating going the
plastic-free route & also flagged an initiative Citizens for Tomorrow under
which she reaches out to people informing them about the plastic pollution
& its effect on our environment.
This Diwali, apart from taking the eco-friendly route
of plastic free gifts, Juhi has walked an extra mile & has ensured her
packaging is also made of biodegradable items only. She went ahead &
started a campaign with a video urging people to have a plastic-free Diwali
& also to share their photos using eco-friendly materials for packaging
purposes.
A source close to the actor shares that Juhi's
friends & family are about to receive a package of copper bottles with
their names carved.
Juhi shares her idea, 'Since last year, I've been
very careful with my people. They are on the look-out for packaging which is
plastic free. Gift which don't have plastic in them itself. We give dry fruits
or dates, things which can be consumed which would be useful to the person
attended to. Even packaging is very important. Last year we used lovely jute
bags, tassels- wooden birds & miniatures that I bought from Gujarat. I
request everyone reading this please look into your packaging. There are many
options available, just look up the internet for DIY ideas. This is the least
you can do for the environment.'
