From portraying a 65-year-old retired teacher in
his debut film, Saaransh, to essaying the challenging role of India’s former PM
Dr. Manmohan Singh in his latest release, The Accidental Prime Minister, Anupam
Kher’s rich repertoire of 500 plus movies is certainly applause-worthy.
The prolific actor’s incredible journey of over
three decades has resulted into him playing memorable characters thereby
pushing the envelope as an actor. Interestingly, at a young age, the versatile
actor has successfully managed to pull off roles and some really extraordinary
looks that defy his age. Even after 34 years, Anupam is still as relevant and
remains filmmaker’s first choice for impactful character-driven roles.
Be it a drunkard father in Daddy, a stubborn
father-in-law in Sansar or the evil Dr. Dang in Karma, the funny guy in Khosla
Ka Ghosla or a disciplined cop in A Wednesday, Anupam Kher remains as popular
and pervasive among the masses. No other actor had ever played such challenging
roles with such ease and enchantment.
The global actor’s has had a vast and glorious run
not just in Bollywood but Hollywood as well, which still is going strong and
prospering with the passing day. Shy of five hundred movies have appearances
and contributions by the gifted actor, and even the epic number fails to sum up
the abilities and caliber of this great performer.
The thespian made his presence felt in the West
alike his Bollywood counterparts and is a much respectable and popular name
there. Be it Bend It Like Beckham (2002), in which he played role of a London
based Sikh gentleman, which was much applauded, and many such projects such as
Bride And Prejudice, The Mistress Of Spices, Lust, Caution, Speedy Singhs and
the Academy Award winning 2012 movie, Silver Linings Playbook, each portrayal
and role speaks a million words for itself, defining Anupam as one of the most
distinctive actors, India has ever produced.
One of the most highly-anticipated films released
this year, The Accidental Prime Minister (TAPM) featuring Anupam in a
game-changing role of India's former PM Dr Manmohan Singh is doing a fair
business at the box office and audiences as well as critics are showering upon
praises upon him.
