To
reminisce about the life and achievements of Indian heavyweight champion Boxer
Kaur Singh, Slay Records is coming up with his biopic. The shoot for the movie
has recently been wrapped up and the post-production has already started,
informed Gurlove Singh Ratol, co-producer and Partner in Slay Records. The film
has been titled 'Padma Shri Kaur Singh'
Kaur
Singh is the only boxer from India to have ever fought against the greatest
boxer ever - Muhammad Ali. A Padma Shri and Arjuna Award recipient, Kaur Singh
represented India in 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. He won three gold medals for
India in Asian Boxing Championship and Asian Games in1982.
Elaborating
on how the team came up with the idea of making a biopic on this long-forgotten
legend, Gurlove says, “I was looking for the right story for my company Slay
Records' debut production. Fortunately, I came across a very strong concept in
the form of 'Padma Shri Kaur Singh' - a story of a forgotten hero from Punjab.
Kaur Singh ji had won 11 Gold medals for India including Asian Games
heavyweight gold, Delhi in 1982. Singh is the only boxer from India who fought
against boxing legend Muhammad Ali. But there's more to his story than just his
sporting life. We are eager to bring out this emotional journey of a sportsman
on celluloid.”
Co-Producer
and Partner in Slay Records Kanwarnihal Singh Gill states “As soon as I and
Gurlove were narrated Kaur Singh' inspiring story, we were sure that we will be
a parr of this film. We had selected this story in January 2019. It has been
shot in various parts of Punjab and we are planning a worldwide release in the
first quarter of 2020.”
The
film stars Karam Batth, who underwent boxing training in Canada for 8 months
before shooting for the movie, in the lead. Also, the movie features actors
including Prabh Grewal, Baninder Bunny, Sukhbir Gill, Avisaar, Sukhwinder
Chahal, Malkeet Rauni, Seema Kaushal, Gurpreet Bhangu among others in
substantial roles.
The
movie is slated to release by March 2020.
